One strand of the story behind Rooster Punk’s name – the Rooster being a symbol for good – is that it heralds a better tomorrow: a new dawn. The agency was born out of a belief that business could and should be a force for good, and has the potential to change the world. So, as the world wakes up to the impact humankind has made on our environment, we wanted to articulate and celebrate how we can all be making a difference – from small actions to large commitments – it all counts.
First of all, we wanted to say how proud we are of the support that our agency has given to help the cause over the last five years. This goes right back to 2016 when we worked pro-bono on the UK’s first major City cleantech investment event: “The Convenient Truth”. Or in 2018 when when we financially supported the launch of oceanbottle.co and again in 2021, when we worked with gesi.org (Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative) as well as helping launch Europe’s’ biggest patient capital cleantech specific VC fund.
But, in light of our previous environmental endeavours, we thought we could take 2021 one step further.
We’re going Carbon Positive!
We are really excited to launch what we believe, is the most unique and perhaps beneficial employee perk on the planet. Carbon positivity.
We wanted to set a new standard when it comes to sustainability at work, so this year we have partnered with climate solutions company Ecologi, and are now very proud to say that Rooster Punk is a carbon positive company; committing to removing two hundred tonnes of CO2 across the planet and to planting thousands of trees this year.
But as well as calculating the agency’s carbon footprint, we’re also helping our team track their entire impact – from home living and personal travel to holidays, food and hobbies too – and giving them regular tips on how to reduce their impact on the planet, so we can all live more sustainably. We all know it’s a team effort!
And the results are starting to show. To date in 2021, Rooster Punk have planted 226 trees and offset 15.8 tonnes of CO2. This means that as a carbon positive company and as individuals (or Eco-Roosters) we are playing an active part to tackle climate change and help to drive the change that our world so desperately needs. And boy does it feel good.
Our Visual Storyteller, Nathan, getting stuck in on to his virtual climb of Mt. Fuji – top effort sir!
Getting stuck in!
Alongside our carbon positive pledge, some of our team have also been busy planting trees elsewhere… from their virtual walking app The Conqueror Virtual Challenges – a mobile app that allows you to clock miles locally and progress a number of virtual fitness challenges, all whilst planting trees.
Whether it’s our Operations Director, Andie, who virtually rambled the entire Camino de Santiago from a not-so-sunny-Surbiton or our Visual Storyteller Nathan, who virtually traversed the heights of Mt.Fuji on his lunch breaks. Together, they have managed to plant upwards of 100 trees across their collective journeys, and we can’t get enough of it! (They even got a great big shiny medal to mark their achievements, well done team).
